CatlinSpeak AI Usage Policy
At CatlinSpeak, we believe journalism should be accurate, thoughtful, creative, and accountable to the people and communities whose stories we tell. As AI becomes an increasingly common part of our world, we are committed to using it carefully and transparently.
Our journalism is human-authored. We do not use generative AI to write, rewrite, generate the words, ideas, reporting, or analysis published in CatlinSpeak. We also do not use generative AI to create images, illustrations, or other visual artwork for our publication.
We may use AI for limited supporting tasks when it does not replace a journalist’s reporting, thinking, or judgement. AI is not a source, a journalist, or a substitute for our own reporting and fact-checking.
We do not use AI-powered transcription for interviews. Our journalists may record interviews with permission and use those recordings to create their own transcripts or notes.
Transparency
When AI meaningfully contributes to the research or editorial process of an article, we will tell our readers how it was used and identify the AI tool involved.
Privacy & security
We take the privacy of our sources, interviewees, and community seriously. Interview recordings, transcripts, and private or identifying information are not entered into generative AI. As a journalistic organization, we prioritize your privacy and will always work to protect it.
