Fun, random, or weird holidays you probably haven't heard of

Everybody knows that you eat turkey at Thanksgiving, hand out candy on Halloween, and hunt for eggs on Easter, but did you know about spending February 13th with your BFFs for “Galantine’s Day” or that you should be enjoying some delicious honey for “National Winnie-The-Pooh Day” on January 18th? Keep reading to find out about some lesser-known holidays that might brighten your day!

Star Wars Day – May 4

“May the fourth be with you” is a more well-known holiday, a play on the famous catchphrase, ‘may the force be with you.’ Star Wars Day is a time to celebrate your favorite characters, from Luke to Leia. Spend the day watching the movies or drinking blue milk, a Jedi Master’s breakfast staple. Of the fifteen students interviewed at Catlin Gabel, only five were aware of “Star Wars day.”

 Chocolate Chip Cookie Day – August 4

 This sweet holiday celebration includes indulging in delicious chocolate chip cookies. Bake up a batch of your favorite recipe, and share with coworkers and friends! This holiday is just meant to bring some sweetness into your life!

Friendsgiving – Anytime Around Thanksgiving

 Like the traditional Thanksgiving holiday, Friendsgiving is a time to eat good food with people you care about. Simply swap out the family for friends. Celebrate by offering to cook or have everybody pitch in potluck style.

 Ugly Holiday Sweater Day – December 15

 There is no shortage of ugly sweaters with various designs and styles for this holiday. From truly tacky to the ultra-hilarious, this is a day to show off your winter holiday flair.

 National Puppy Day – March 23

 March 23rd is a great way to spotlight the enjoyment and unconditional love that puppies bring into our lives. You can celebrate by adopting, donating money or food to your local shelter, or getting your puppy a fun, new toy. Talk about some serious tail-wagging!

Polar Bear Plunge Day - January 1 

Polar Bear Plunge Day, or The New year's Dive, is the chilly holiday to wake you up! During the holiday, some people jump or sink into cold water to secure their new year wishes, but most do it for the thrill/excitement of the ice-cold water!
